Species profile

Pharaoh Eagle-owl

Bubo ascalaphus

Quick answer

REMARK. — A pair observed and photographed in extreme north Burkina in February, March, and November 2005 (ABC 2020), but not reported for Burkina Faso by Borrow & Demey (2014). The specimen of the SMF bird collection (SMF 12435) is from a “ fetish market ”, thus the locality is uncertain and not verifiable (G. Mayr pers. comm. 2020). The presence and the status of this species in Burkina Faso need further assessment.
