Holotype: ZMB 14225 (Lichtenstein 1832, Nr. 79 sub “ Halieus ”), skin, collected by Meyen in “ Februar ” [= 11 Feb 1831; Meyen 1834 b: 322] in “ Chile ” [= Mostazal, Chile; see below]. Type locality. Meyen (1834 a: 114) reported having seen two birds sitting on a tree “ im Innern des Landes, in der Provinz San Fernando ”, i. e. “ in the interior of the country, in the Province of San Fernando ”. Following further evidence in his travel report (Meyen 1834 b: 322), we ascertain the type locality as Mostazal, Chachapoal Province, O’Higgins Region, Chile, in particular the area between San Francisco de Mostazal [33.98 ° S, 70.72 ° W] and the southern entrance to the Ancestura pass [33.95 ° S, 70.71 ° W].
