Fringilla minuta

Fringilla minuta

Quick answer

Type locality. Meyen (1834 a: 86) mentioned that the bird frequented “ Zuckerplantagen auf der Insel Manila [sic] ” (“ sugar-cane plantations on the island of Luzon ”). Such plantations were absent from Talim Island and the Jalajala Peninsula (Meyen 1835), so the syntypes must have been collected at the city of Manila. We thus ascertain the type locality as Manila, Luzon, Philippines [14.60 ° N, 120.98 ° E]. Meyen’s itinerary indicates that both specimens must have been collected there during 14 – 29 September 1831 (see above).
