COMMENTS: No type was designated in the original description. Hartert and Kleinschmidt (1901: 40) listed the specimen labeled peregrinus by Brehm and collected on 10 January 1818 as the type, thereby designating it the lectotype. The annotation ‘‘ 4 a’ ’ on the reverse of Brehm’s label corresponds to the number given it by Hartert and Kleinschmidt. One other specimen listed by Hartert and Kleinschmidt (no. 4 c) and labeled peregrinus by Brehm came to AMNH: AMNH 674867, female juvenile, Rodathal (= Vallis Rodana as on label), 28 April 1817, but peregrinus was described only as a bird of migratory passage. The specimen labeled ‘‘ 4 b’ ’ by Hartert and Kleinschmidt may have been exchanged by AMNH to ZFMK as AMNH 674881.
