Holotype: ZMB 11301 (Lichtenstein 1832, Nr. 56 sub “ Columba ”), collected by Meyen in “ April ” [= 6 Apr 1831; Meyen 1834 b: 475] in “ Peru ” [= Pichupichuni, Peru; see below]. Type locality. The holotype was shot “ bei Pisacoma im Monat April ” (“ at Pizacoma in April ”) according to Meyen (1834 a: 99). In his travel report, Meyen (1834 b: 475) specified that he collected this dove on 6 April at the village of “ Piche-Pichun ” [= Pichupichuni]. We thus ascertain the type locality as Pichupichuni, Puno Region, Peru [16.59 ° S, 69.38 ° W].
