He worked at the Royal Zoological Museum of Torino University, initially as an assistant and then as honorary deputy manager. During 1895 – 99 he visited Panama, Colombia and Ecuador where he collected zoological material, including birds that were studied in collaboration with Tommaso Salvadori (Arcangeli 1940, Mazzotti 2011).
