Species profile
Aramides avicenniae
Aramides avicenniae
Quick answer
Distribution. Coastal Brazil from Santos, Sao Paulo state, south to Guaratuba Bay, Parana state (Figures 1 and 12). A single USNM specimen from Santa Catarina state is also mentioned by Bangs (1907). According to him, it agrees completely with BMNH 89.11.20 from the Parana coast, which we examined and is a typical avicenniae. The USNM specimen mentioned by Bangs could not be examined by us, but indicates that the species' distribution may extend further south to at least Santa Catarina.
