Holotype: ZMB 13832 (Lichtenstein 1832, Nr. 84 sub “ Anas ”), skin, unsexed, collected by Meyen in “ Maerz ” [= 17 Feb 1831; see Meyen 1834 b: 353] in “ Chile ” [= western foot of Volcán Maipo; see below]. Type locality. It follows from Meyen’s data and itinerary (Meyen 1834 a: 120, 1834 b: 353) that the holotype was collected on the western foot of Volcán Maipo at an elevation of ca. 10,000 feet (3000 – 3500 m), Metropolitan Region, Chile [ca. 34.2 ° S, 69.9 ° W].
