This name was introduced by Mathews (1915 a: 132), who noted that the type was from ‘‘ New Guinea’ ’ and darker than A. c. cerviniventris. I did not find a New Guinea specimen of Chlamydera cerviniventris in AMNH that had been in the Mathews Collection. CNEMOPHILIDAE Mayr (1962 d: 181 – 183) included the Cnemophilidae as a subfamily of the Paradisaeidae, but recent molecular studies have found the cnemophiline species to comprise a family far removed from paradisaeids (Barker et al., 2004; Irestedt and Ohlson, 2008; and Aggerbeck et al., 2014). Because the order of the AMNH type lists follow the order of families in the Peters Check-list series, the Cnemophilidae are placed here but accorded family rank.
